Posted by HCW Law | Nov 24, 2025 | 0 Comments

If you have been injured in some type of Connecticut accident that has been caused by the fault of another or if you have been injured as a result of a dog bite, then you will be contacted by an insurance adjuster of the person that caused your accident or the insurance carrier of the dog owner. After the adjuster asks you about your injuries and apologizes about the fact that their insured caused the accident, you will then be told that a recorded statement will have to be taken from you and that you will have to sign a number of authorizations so that the insurance adjuster can get all of your medical information, your lost wages, and may attempt to get records regarding your medical history. DO NOT AGREE TO DO THESE THINGS!

I remember the day like it was yesterday. I was at a meeting in Wethersfield, CT discussing matters involving the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles’ teen safe driving committee of which I am a member. As soon as I got out of the meeting, I received a telephone call from my son, Zachary who was a senior in high school.” Dad, I’ve been involved in an accident but it wasn’t my fault”, he said. “Zach are you are alright?” “My back and neck really hurt,” he explained. He then told me that after leaving the high school, he was slowing down in a line of traffic that was stopped ahead of him when the car behind him slammed into the rear of his vehicle. He told me that back and front of the vehicle were both crushed. I told him to make sure that he was taken by ambulance to the Danbury Hospital and that I would meet him there.

CT Motorcycle Accidents and How to Avoid Them

Connecticut motorcycle accidents happen far too frequently. In addition to being a Connecticut personal injury lawyer, I am also a motorcycle rider and I know all too well that riding a motorcycle can be quite dangerous. I just visited a new client in the hospital yesterday who was very seriously injured after a car made a left-hand turn right in front of him which did not allow him any options other than hitting the car and flying overs handlebars and landing on the road. As motorcycle riders, we tell other people that we are going to be very careful when we are riding but unfortunately most accidents will occur through the negligence or fault of another driver.

Keeping Kids Safe from Connecticut Crosswalk Accidents

I was returning to my office yesterday when I noticed two middle school students, who had the right-of-way, were about to enter the crosswalk. A school bus made a sharp turn and almost hit these students. I immediately called the school bus company and reported this incident and asked that all of the drivers be reminded that they need to be more careful when driving, especially around schools. Unfortunately, approximately 25,000 child injuries occur each year in this country involving students located near schools. Tragically, almost 100 children are killed each year in pedestrian accidents while walking to or from school.

America Walks is a nonprofit dedicated to those who enjoy walking around this great country of ours! Whether it’s a simple walk down the local sidewalks or a memorable walk across the nation to see all it’s wonders, America Walks provides a voice for all walking communities.Recently, we had the opportunity to speak with Heidi Simon, Communications and Public Affairs Manager, about how people can keep safe when walking. Ms. Simon recommend that people not use the term accident because many traffic fatalities are the result of actions that can be prevented and are therefore not accidents but rather are crashes. So at her request we have substituted the word crash for accident.

Warning Signs that a Dog is About to ATTACK

One afternoon I was out walking with my teenage daughter, who worked at a veterinary office, and our toy poodle. Suddenly, and out of nowhere, a German shepherd came running up to us on the road. I immediately picked up our small dog and moved in front of my daughter to protect them from this large dog. My daughter moved around me put her hand down so the dog could smell it and then gently slid her hand inside of his collar and began to walk him back to his house. I was shocked and asked my daughter how she could have put herself in such a situation not knowing whether or not the dog would bite her. She told me from her experience at the that vet’s office that this dog did not display the signs that he was about to attack.

Do You Have a Legal Malpractice Case?

Posted by HCW Law | Nov 24, 2025 | 0 Comments

Legal malpractice cases involve a negligent or careless act committed by an attorney. A common error made in such cases by a lawyer is failing to file a lawsuit on time due to missing the statute of limitations date or not hiring an expert to prove liability or damages or failing to file the proper documentation with the court that results in your case being dismissed or any other negligent act that causes you some type of financial or compensable harm. If you feel that you have a case, where the value of the damages is at least $100,000.00, you should obtain the advice of an experienced trial attorney who has expertise in the handling and presentation of malpractice cases.

Who Is At Fault When Pedestrian Is Hit In a Connecticut Crosswalk?

Posted by HCW Law | Nov 24, 2025 | 0 Comments

You are crossing the street when you are struck by a car. The operator of the vehicle jumps out to see if you are okay and then starts yelling at you for walking in front of their car. If you are injured you should be taken to the hospital by ambulance. You should then make sure you receive follow up care. You will be tempted to talk to the insurance adjuster of the motor vehicle driver who will call you to see how you are doing. The adjuster will want to take a recorded statement from you to determine who is at fault in the accident. This is the last thing you want to do after you have been injured in a Connecticut crosswalk accident. You need to speak with an experienced Connecticut crosswalk accident lawyer as soon as you can. The insurance adjuster will want to speak with you and will first tell you how sorry they are that you were injured. You will be told that they want to investigate this matter as quickly as possible so that if they are insured is responsible they can get your medical bills paid, they can compensate you for your lost income and so that they can give you money for your pain and suffering. What they really want to do is to get enough information from you to indicate that their insured is not at fault and that you will not be paid one dime for your injuries and damages. So the ultimate question would then become; who is at fault when a pedestrian is hit in a Connecticut crosswalk? In Connecticut, since 1929, a pedestrian would enjoy the right-of-way while in a crosswalk. If a pedestrian is in the crosswalk, or is at the curb of the crosswalk, then all vehicles must slow down or stop to allow the pedestrian to reach the opposite side of the street. If the pedestrian is not in a marked or designated crosswalk area then the pedestrian would have to yield to all other traffic. There are a number of restrictions or variations of this general rule, for example if a pedestrian is in a crosswalk he or she must yield to an emergency vehicle, but generally speaking once in the crosswalk the pedestrian would enjoy the right of way. The general rule of law in Connecticut also holds that t the operator of a motor vehicle is required to exercise due and reasonable care, while operating a motor vehicle, to avoid colliding with any pedestrian or a person on a bicycle and shall provide a reasonable warning by sounding a horn or other noise emitting device to avoid a collision. So the ultimate issue in any pedestrian crosswalk case is what are the facts that led to the pedestrian being struck by a motor vehicle. The facts of each individual case will determine who is at fault in a Connecticut crosswalk accident case. The importance of contacting a Connecticut personal injury attorney at the earliest possible moment cannot be overstressed. In some cases, a private investigator or expert might have to be retained to investigate the facts surrounding your particular case. The longer you wait in conducting this investigation the more difficult it might be to prove your case. There are a great number of things that you should be doing immediately after your Connecticut crosswalk accident case. There are also a great number of things which you should not be doing. There are things that you can do to improve your medical care and treatment. There are things you can do to help you get better quicker. There are things you can do to help properly develop your lost wage claim. There are a number of things which you can be doing to help maximize the value of your Connecticut crosswalk accident case. However, chances are that you do not know what to do and what not to do. You run the very great risk of doing something that could ultimately harm the value of your case or even destroy it altogether.
