By, Richard P. Hastings, Connecticut Medical Malpractice Attorney
Every day a great number of people are in need of emergency care but what they are unaware of is that a large percentage of all medical malpractice cases occur in emergency rooms. Many times emergency rooms are understaffed, which creates an even more stressful environment in which the doctors have to respond as quickly as possible to each situation they are presented. Errors that are created or occur in emergency rooms can be the result of insufficient staff training or experience and/or inadequate facilities, unsanitary conditions, not enough doctors or staff, and many other situations.
Many injuries resulting in hospital malpractice do not evidence themselves until after the patient leaves the hospital. Paralysis, severe pain, brain injury, medication overdose, infections, permanent disability and extended recovery time are just a few of the injuries related to hospital or doctor malpractice. Many patients are also misdiagnosed. Some emergency rooms do not have a sufficient patient tracking system or record keeping procedure. These deficiencies can lead to the claims of medical malpractice.
If you are the victim of emergency room malpractice you would be entitled to compensation for your injuries which could include: past and future medical bills; past and future lost wages; pain and suffering; permanent injuries; and loss of consortium for an affected spouse, if appropriate.
An experienced medical malpractice attorney should be consulted at the earliest possible moment to protect your rights and to help maximize the value of your claim. If you fail to act in a timely basis you could severely undermine any type of potential claim which you might otherwise have.
